Today I announced the start of a challenge that involves me seeking your help. I am going to donate £1000 to the charity Comic Relief if I can reach 1000 subscribers on my youtube channel within 1 month. The expiry date of this challenge is 20th March 2013.

Who are Comic Relief and what do they do?

Comic Relief is a charity based in the UK that aims to make the world free from poverty. Their mission is to drive positive change through the power of entertainment, hence the title “Comic Relief”. They’ve raised over £800,000,000 for people in over 70 countries worldwide (including the UK) since the charity formed in 1985, with most of that money being generating during the Red Nose Day and Sport Relief events in the UK. The money we donate goes to projects such as vaccinating children against deadly diseases, providing people with clean running water, and providing expert care & advice to those suffering from illnesses such as Dementia.

Why did I set this challenge?

I’ve been wanting to do something for charity for some time but like most people I had put it off, had bills to pay, or just got distracted by every day life. These last few days those I’ve had a lot of time for reflection about what I want to do with my life and I decided that if I was going to do something I wanted to act now rather than later. Everything good that has happened to me in my adult life has usually come from immediate action rather than sitting around.

For me it was important to put up the monetary amount rather than ask people for donations (although please donate separately to Comic Relief if you would like to.) The reason I choose to do things this way is that I know there will be a lot of people who give themselves excuses not to donate. I myself have been one of those people in the past when I’ve seen a charity ad or someone asking for donations. However, if there was a way a person could be sure that money was going to a charity but it wasn’t actually coming out of their pocket, I felt like they would be much more keen to do it. Taking 2 minutes to subscribe to my youtube channel and share a video is something that doesn’t take up a lot of time, and doesn’t take up any of your money, but you will be helping towards sending money to a worthy cause.

Separate to the idea of wanting to do something for charity, I have for some time wanted to build my youtube channel into something bigger. Vlogging is something I discovered late in the game when it comes to this blog, but it is by far the thing I enjoy doing most out of everything! I love making videos! Eventually I would like to vlog full-time and I feel that a step in the direction of doing that is to build a successful youtube channel. Also, most of my videos are aimed at making people laugh, such as my guide to Scottish swear words or advice on how to piss off a Scottish person! I don’t really make the videos for money like I do with other blogging related activities, I do them because I enjoy making people laugh and so I thought it was apt therefore to do this for Comic Relief of all charities.

So how do you subscribe?
