My Travel Wishlist – Trips I’d Like to Take In the Next 10 Years

Christmas is coming up and, I don’t know about you, but all I can think about are what trips I’ve love to do rather than what gifts I’m getting! With that in mind I thought I’d create a travel wishlist, places I’d like to visit sometime over the next 10 years, both for my inspiration and for yours! They’re all big ventures, but hopefully I’ll have both the time and money to do them sooner rather than later…

An American Road Trip – Visiting all 50 States!

Despite the recent election result, I’d still say a road trip around the USA is one of the top trips on my lists of things I’d like to do before I die. I’ve just got a feeling that the US is more diverse than it sometimes gets the reputation of, and having the contrast of standing in New York versus standing in the middle of nowhere in Texas has got be an experience. That and think of all the natural wonders the USA has on its doorstep. Definitely one of my must-do trips for the future!

A Trip to Mongolia’s Gobi Desert & Kazakhstan

I’ve always found the more off-beat destinations alluring. It’s like, the less I know about a country or countries, the more I want to visit! Since I heard stories about Mongolia’s history and the beauty of the Gobi Desert, I’ve also just been wanting to visit it. As far as Kazakhstan goes I really no next to nothing – but that is exactly why I want to go! I almost don’t want to do any research beforehand so it’s all a surprise when I get there.  Central Asia is definitely near the top of my list for places I’d like to go next!

From North to South Africa by Land

I’ve been to Morocco, but that’s about it as far as Africa is concerned so far (and North Africa is so different to sub-Saharan Africa). I’d therefore love to do a trip, either partly or in full by land, from the North of Africa right down to the South! This one I’m sure though would take a lot of planning and would probably be my most challenging trip to date.

China

There’s still so much of Asia I’ve yet to see and China is right at the top of that list! From the Great Wall to the bustling streets of Beijing and Shanghai, I’ve love to see it all. The cuisine in particular intrigues me as I’m sure it must be so different from what we call ‘Chinese food’ over here. At least that’s what I’ve heard anyway, and the ever-growing foodie in me would love to discover more!

Japan

I’ve avoided Japan up until now for 2 reasons. 1) It’s expensive and 2) I’ve been focused on other continents such as Europe and South America up until now so there’s a lot of Asia I’ve still got to see! Japan, from what I’ve heard though, is a unique entity all in its own and for that reason there’s a huge part of me that wants to go visit!

India

India is somewhere I’m actually surprised I haven’t ventured to yet given how cheap it is, but the budget traveller in me has yet to make it there! It seems like it would be a destination of such magnitude you could dedicate a whole year to it – let alone a few months – and you’d still not have gotten around to everywhere. It’s certainly an intrigue though, and I don’t just mean the popular spots such as Goa. I’d love to get off-the-beaten-track here, but I’m also sure it would be hell of a challenging too, so I’d need to do a lot of planning…

Mexico

I’ve met so many Mexicans on my travels and it’s their recommendations and fun upbeat manner that have made me want to visit Mexico so much! However, I should add that places like Cancun are not on my proposed itinerary and to be honest, never will be! I can only see myself going there if it allows me to fly to Mexico a lot cheaper than flying into other destinations. Otherwise, it’s the history and adventure that I’m there for and Cancun does not fit into that picture!

Scandinavia

Like Japan, I’ve avoided Scandinavia up until now due to its price in comparison to other nearby countries! And to be honest, while I’m still a student it’s unlikely I will visit here until my course is done! However, that doesn’t mean I don’t have an appetite for visiting at all! As clichéd as it sounds, I’d love to do a trip to Lapland during winter! The beauty of Norway is also something I’m yearning to see after witnessing a lot of travel photography from the country from lots of my blogger pals.

Antarctica!

And last but not least, if I ever got the chance or the money together to pay for one of the cruises to Antarctica, I would jump at it! It would be the last continent I’d need to visit to have visited all 7, so it’d be a major milestone in my life, but also, it would be so incredibly different from anywhere else I’ve visited too! However, with the price of tours ranging in the thousands, it’s unlikely to be soon. One day though, I’m going to visit this continent!

So that’s the next big trips I’d like to take sometime in the next 5 to 10 years (if all goes to plan). What are yours?

Great list Jane! It just makes me want to travel!

  2. The number one on your list…the travel all the 50 States, is also one that I’d like to achieve. Maybe hire an RV and take a sabbatical for one year. How I wish that’s possible
