The Travel Blogging Update – 4

It’s been a while since I’ve last updated you all on what’s going on at RunawayJane.com, so I thought it was time for the 4th instalment of my travel blogging updates.

New Projects

With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I’ve learned since I started blogging back in February, and how to use that knowledge in other projects. I set myself two targets back then – the first was to be earning a wage from RunawayJane.com within 6 months (which I have achieved), and the other was to be earning enough money come February 2011 that I could become completely location independent. Ultimately, in order to do that I’ve had to look at ways to multiply my income, and as you may have already noticed, I’ve created other travel related websites such as Jane’s Guide to Scotland, and Living in a Hostel over the past 2 or 3 months. The latest addition to my portfolio of websites however has been MakeMoneyAsYouTravel.com.

Make Money As You Travel had originally been an idea I had for an eBook. As I began writing however, I could see how this topic would be something which would be ever evolving. There was so much to write about, and so much that I felt I could share on the topic, that I deciding to change the project into a website instead. Make Money As You Travel is about how about how to make money as you travel, rather than pre-departure. Usually, when people go travelling, they save up a huge heap of cash, go travelling, run out of money, and come home. If you can find a way of earning money as you travel however, and become location independent, then you can continually travel. If I go home, I want it to be because I choose to, not because my finances dictate me to. Through the site I hope to share what I’ve learned on the subject, as well as creating topics for discussing where people can share their thought, methods, or opinions on the subject, and therefore help anyone else reading who’s trying to do the same. There is a big focus on blogging, and the location independent lifestyle, as that is where I have found both the most successful, and flexible way of earning money on the road, and being able to travel freely, but the aim is to cover all aspects of earning money on the road.

Please head a long and check the site out. Gary Arndt from Everything-Everywhere.com has already written some very insightful comments on the post Travel Writing – Freelance Vs Self Publication, and posts such as Blogger Vs WordPress have also been quite popular, so be sure to check them out and share your thoughts and opinions through the comments field!

In other news, I will also be launching another website very shortly. I plan to have it complete within the next 2 weeks, so be sure to subscribe to the RSS feed here at RunawayJane.com if you haven’t already, to be the first to hear about it.

Features

I was very surprised to hear that I have been voted number 72 in Tripbase’s Top 100 Travel Writers recently. It’s always nice to be featured somewhere, but Tripbase is a big company within the Travel Industry, and is also a site that I really like, so was especially nice to hear!

Design

You may have noticed RunawayJane.com has been having a few changes recently to the design of late. I’ve been playing around with header in particular lately, and the colour scheme a little bit, and finally settled on what will be the design for the foreseeable future (until I stop being so stingy and hire an actual designer instead stop doing it all myself!) Either way, this will be the look for the next 6 months or so, and possibly longer.

eBook

My eBook “The Independent Travel Resources”  is still available at 3 GBP for a limited time offer. It’s a resource of all the things you need to know before you go travelling. If you are thinking about buying it, now is the best time!

My Travels

I’ve decided that after New Year that I will be basing myself in Eastern Europe for 3 months. I enjoyed my recent trip to Prague very much, and it has spurred me on to make a second visit to the city, and experience the city, and surrounding Czech Republic in much more depth. I’ll also be visiting friends in Budapest, as well as making trips to nearby countries such as Ukraine and Croatia. Eastern Europe is an area I haven’t seen a great deal of yet, so it will be good to experience it a bit more in depth. Keep checking back here to RunawayJane.com to hear all about it, and find out about my latest ventures…
