Top 5 Things I Love About Travel

I love travel. It’s what motivates me, inspires me, and gets me out of bed in the morning! In fact, the whole reason I set up this blog was because I wanted to travel for the rest of my life. So with that in mind, I have decided to list the top 5 things I love about travel, and why I think others should give it a try too!

1. The Experience
The experiences you have on the road can be some of the best of your life! The world is a large place, and with that comes such an opportunity to experience a whole diversity of people, places, cultures, languages, food, the list goes on… Experience can mean anything though. From the day you went dancing with locals on the beach, to the time you trekked up the Andes! It could even be as simple as picnic in the park! Travel offers everyone a whole range of experiences to take with them and remember for the rest of their life. It’s those experiences that got me hooked on a life of nomadic adventure, and one which I hope I can share with others for years to come.
2. Meeting New People
I am sociable being at heart. I love people, I love to go out, and I love to mix with anyone who likes to have a good time. Travel offers that in abundance, and to do so with an often eclectic mix of people. You can meet people of all nationalities, cultures, languages, and personalities. You can form friendships with people you never imagined you would. Travellers by nature are a friendly bunch. The more of them I meet and form connections with, the more it just makes me want to travel more!
3. Challenging Yourself
Life is nothing without challenges. The only way to self improvement and self fulfilment in my opinion is to push and challenge yourself. Whether you want to climb a mountain, white water raft, volunteer abroad, or just face the smallest of fears, travel can be the most challenging thing at times, but also the most rewarding! If you are thinking about travelling but are unsure, push yourself to make that first step – you will never regret it.
4. Education & Understanding
In the 4 years since I started travelling, I have learned more about myself, life, food, cultures, languages, budgeting, and how much I can really push myself amongst other things! More than anything I could have ever learned at a school, college, university, or in any text book! There is no better way to learn than to experience things first hand, and if I ever have children later on in life then I plan on taking them travelling with me as there really is no better education than experiencing a place, culture, or language first hand.
5. Beautiful Places
The amount of times when I’ve been stopped in my tracks and been completely awe-struck by a piece of scenery, sunset, mountain, or any other place just seems to continue the more I travel. It’s in those times where I really just pause and wonder how on earth I got so lucky to be able to travel to all the places that I have. As travellers we are so lucky to be able to do what we do. Particularly in the western world where our passport can pretty much take us to anywhere we want out with a war zone. There are so many people out there who don’t have that luxury, and it’s at times like those awe struck moments that I remind myself how lucky I really am.

Not everyone in the world is lucky enough to be able to travel. I come from the UK where my passport gains me entry to almost anywhere I want to go. It would be such a shame to waste it, and I don’t intend to do so anytime soon. There are so many amazing things to love about travel, but above is my top 5, and why I will make this my life for as long as can possibly be. If you are thinking about travel yourself, I urge you to give it try, it will be the best decision you ever made, trust me.

  1. I think I could list a thousand motives to travel, but you’ve summarized very well in five! There’s nothing like travel to open our minds! 🙂

  2. Jane- Again, we have such common reasons for travel…what a great list to create. I might create my own to see how different it has become now that I travel as a parent! Beautiful pics as always! 🙂

P.S. You may have noticed, I changed my name from @1writergrrl but I kept the bright yellow Aussie bucket hat, so you should still recognize me on Twitter 😉
